I’ll be honest, when it comes to battle royal games I prefer PUBG or Call of Duty Mobile. Okay, hold your horses, hold your booing Fortnite fans. Not that I have anything against Fortnite, it’s just I prefer something more “realistic” for my battle royal games. But slap on cool-looking cars and I’m ready to reconsider Fortnite. In this post, we’ll take a look at these Fortnite cars, their different features, and where to find them.
Fortnite Cars: An Overview
When were They Added?
Fortnite cars are a subset of vehicles available in Fortnite for players to drive. Epic Games has actually teased the arrival of the cars for a while. They finally arrived last year in August during the Chapter 2 Season 3 update. Also known as the Joy Ride update.
Initially, there were four cars added to the game with different color schemes. While there are still only four cars, Epic Games have since added two unique variants of two cars, bringing the total to six cars that players can encounter as they go through the map and try to survive.
While Fortnite isn’t short on vehicles and has plenty of helicopters, boats, planes, and shopping carts for players to ride on, the cars are a refreshing update and certainly very welcomed amongst us petrolheads. Here’s the launch video of Fortnite’s Joy Ride update:
Fortnite Cars Features
So, how do these cars differ from other vehicles? Well, some of the cars are the fastest mode of land transport in the game. The bigger ones are certainly slower, but they’re still decently faster than the shopping cart my friend and I used to spend too much time on and when we were playing Fortnite.
Anyway, if you prefer land transport, you’re probably going to like cars. They’re fast and they’re durable. They don’t have weapons on them, but they can still be pretty deadly. Cars can easily run your opponents down, eliminating them from the match. Additionally, they can smash through walls as well. The cars have different speeds and health levels, but generally, you can use them to run over opponents and walls before they take significant damage.
If things get a bit quiet, don’t worry because cars can play radio stations. Whether you want Radio Yonder or Party Royale, every car in Fortnite has a banging stereo system to keep you company. Oh, if you’re a content creator and don’t want to get a copyright strike, Fortnite has you covered. You can actually disable licensed audio in the audio settings. This will prevent the radio from playing any copyrighted songs and you don’t have to worry about it later on when uploading your content.
Keep in mind that the cars will need to be refueled. The cars will spawn with anywhere between 40 – 150 levels of fuel and the number is completely random. We’ll let you know where you can find gas stations on the island later in this post so you can prep your journey if you find a car.
List of Fortnite Cars and Where to Find Them
The cars spawn randomly in specific locations on the map. Meaning that there will always be a car that spawns in these locations, but it will be completely random and you might not find the same car twice. If you want to travel by car, you have no option but to go to these locations, preferably the closest one, and then take whatever car is available.
We’ll talk about where you can find them later on. For now, let’s meet the cars:
Fortnite Cars: Titano Mudflap
The slogan that Fortnite gave this car is “Own the Road”. This is quite fitting considering the Titano Mudflap is the largest car in the game. Well, it’s technically a semi-truck, not a car. It basically looks like Optimus Prime’s angry brother that’s ready to run over pretty much anyone on the island. I’d personally get out of the way if I see a Titano Mudflap coming.
Of course, being the biggest car in the game, it’s not going to be the fastest way to get around. So if you want to get around the island quickly, you might want to skip the Titano Mudflap. However, it has the most health in the game. So if you’re planning to run over other players and go through walls repeatedly, the Titano Mudflap is definitely going to be ideal. It also means that it can take a decent amount of fire before it starts to fall apart.
Additionally, it has decent off-road capabilities. So it won’t be the fastest car in the game, but it can pretty much go anywhere it pleases.
Titano Mudflap stats:
- Health: 1,200
- Top Speed: 40
- Fuel Capacity: 100
- Fuel on Spawn: Between 80 – 100 (random)
Fortnite Cars: Islander Prevalent
If you want something more well-rounded, then the Islander Prevalent is for you. It’s basically a sedan, that’s it. It’s about as average as they come, even the slogan for it is “The Spirit of Responsibility”. Hardly as exciting as Rolls Royce’s Spirit of Ecstacy, but if you have a team of four people and need to get around, the Islander Prevalent is perfect.
It has decent handling across all terrain, decent speed, and decent health. Really if you’re just looking to get around the island quickly, the Islander Prevalent is ideal.
Oh, it also comes in a yellow taxi variant, so you might be able to find those on the map. Not that there’s anything special about it, it has the same health and fuel stats as the standard Prevalent. Fun fact, the Prevalent was used as a prop around the map before the Joy Ride update.
Islander Prevalent stats:
- Health: 800
- Top Speed: 65
- Fuel Capacity: 100
- Fuel on Spawn: Between 40 – 100 (random)
Fortnite Cars: OG Bear
“Don’t Poke the Bear” is the slogan that Epic gave this American-style classic pickup truck. We’re assuming it means don’t anger the driver of the OG Bear as it can quite easily run you over. The OG Bear has a high health stat, the same as the Titano Mudflap. This means you can run over your opponents and drive through walls repeatedly before it starts to fall apart. It also has a higher top speed than the Mudflap, topping out at 55.
Add to that it has decent offroad and you have an impressive all-rounder. It’s not as fast as the Prevalent, but the OG Bear has a larger fuel tank. This means you can drive the OG Bear for longer before needing another refuel. Honestly, when you consider that the OG Bear has the same amount of health as the Titano Mudflap, a higher top speed, and more fuel capacity, the Mudflap suddenly doesn’t look that scary nor desirable. Why did Epic Games even bother making the Mudflap?
OG Bear stats:
- Health: 1,200
- Top Speed: 55
- Fuel Capacity: 150
- Fuel on Spawn: Between 50 – 150 (random)
Fortnite Cars: Victory Motors Whiplash
Last but not least, we have the Victory Motors Whiplash. It has the body style of a supercar, and some players have likened it to the Lamborghini Countach. Frankly, I don’t see it, but it’s a pretty good-looking car still. Of course, it has the speed to match the looks. Unsurprisingly, it’s the fastest car of the four with a top speed of 60 and 90 when the boost is activated.
However, the speed does come at a cost. It only has 800 health points, the same as the Islander Prevalent. And while it is faster than any other car, the handling suffers when you decide to take it off-road. Additionally, you can only fit two people in it. Still, if you stick to the road, the Whiplash is the fastest of the bunch.
The best thing about the Whiplash is probably its slogan, which is “It’s not just a name. It’s a warning.” So, yes, thinking about giving your opponents whiplash? The Victory Motors Whiplash is the car for you.
Victory Motors Whiplash stats:
- Health: 800
- Top Speed: 60 (90 with boost)
- Fuel Capacity: 100
- Fuel on Spawn: Between 40 – 100 (random)
Here’s a video of all four Fortnite cars in action:
Fortnite Cars: Victory Motors Whiplash Variants
The Whiplash has some notable variants. The first is the Whiplash Super Circuit, donning a red and white Rocket League-themed livery. The car isn’t actually available in Rocket League, it’s just a variant of the Whiplash with Rocket League livery available for players to drive in Fortnite.
The second variant was the Mark 51, or also known as Tony Stark’s Whiplash. It was a modified version of the Whiplash, supposedly customized by Tony Stark with a livery that looks like the Iron Man suit. This variant had an infinite fuel and boost meter, meaning you don’t have to worry about refueling and saving boost. And it could only be found at Stark Industries. However, the variant is exclusive to Chapter 2 Season 4. It has since been removed alongside the removal of Stark Industries at the start of Chapter 2 Season 5.
Where to Find Fortnite Cars
As mentioned, the cars in Fortnite will spawn randomly at a set of locations. Meaning that there are a set of locations where you will find a car, but the cars that spawn there will be random. So you won’t be able to go to a particular location and find a specific car. Still, if you like driving the cars in Fortnite and you want to use them, here are the spawn locations:
- 2 locations in Misty Meadows, and 1 location West of Misty Meadows.
- There’s 1 spawn location in Catty Corner.
- 1 location in Slurry Swamp and you’ll find another one just North of Slurry Swamp (or South of Weeping Woods).
- 1 location in Lazy Lake.
- 2 locations in Retail Row.
- 2 locations in Holly Hedges.
- There’s 1 location each in Boney Burbs, Dirty Docks, Sweaty Sands, and Craggy Cliffs.
- You’ll find another one South-East of The Spire.
- 1 location in Pleasant Park and 1 on the roads East to Pleasant Park.
- 1 location in Steamy Stacks and 1 more just West of Steamy Stacks.
Fortnite Cars: Where are the Gas Stations?
Okay, now that you know where to find these cars, where can you find the gas stations? After all, what good is a car without any fuel? Here are the gas station locations in Fortnite:
- West of Holly Hedges.
- Westside of Sweaty Sands.
- Eastside of Boney Burbs.
- South of Colossal Crops.
- North of Slurpy Swamp.
- West of Misty Meadows.
- Westside of Lazy Lake.
- South of Catty Corner.
- Eastside of Pleasant Park.
- South of Craggy Cliffs.
- West of Steamy Stacks.
- East of Colossal Crops.
There you have it, now you know where to make a stop when you’re driving a car so you won’t be caught short on fuel. Simply park your car next to a gas pump and then get out and interact with it and it will start to refuel your car. Just keep a lookout for other players trying to ambush you as you refuel your car. One more thing, there’s another item that you can find around these gas stations:
Fortnite Cars: Offroad Tires
Yes, you can find offroad tires near gas pumps. They’re also available as a Floor Loot, meaning you may find them in floor loot locations across the island. But you’re very likely to find them when you visit a gas station. If you do find them, put the wheels in your inventory and throw them at your car. Your car will then change its tires to chunky offroad tires. This will give your car better offroad performance and will even allow you to drive up near-vertical cliffs. Convenient.
Here’s a video showing the offroad tires in action:
Fortnite Cars: Other Fortnite Vehicles
We like driving cars so we definitely would choose cars as our mode of land transport in Fortnite. But if cars aren’t your preferred mode of transport, let’s take a look at all the vehicles available in Fortnite for you to use instead:
Shopping Cart
Traveling by car is all well and good, but I think my personal favorite mode of transport in Fortnite is still the shopping cart. Not because it’s faster or more useful, but it is, well, hilarious. The shopping cart accommodates two players: one player will drive the car, while the other sits inside it and use items and shoot at enemies as the other player pushes the cart and tries to get where they’re going.
Cars can do that also, obviously. In fact, cars are more durable, faster, and handles better. But there’s just something absolutely hilarious about shooting at your opponents from a shopping cart that I’d probably still choose this over almost any other vehicle in Fortnite. Of course, if you’re more serious and you want something more useful, you’re not short on options.
All-Terrain Kart
Almost equally hilarious to the shopping cart but probably more useful is the All Terrain Kart, which is basically a golf cart with offroad tires. It looks almost as comical as the shopping cart, and it has the same amount of health as the shopping cart at 400 points. It’s also incapable of damaging other players, so you can’t run over your opponents in one of these.
Still, it’s faster and it seats four people. So, if you have a team of four players, the All-Terrain Kart is the better option than the shopping cart. It’s not quite as hilarious, but you can seat three of your friends and you can have three friends shooting at enemies at once instead of just one.
Quadcrasher
This next vehicle has actually been vaulted by Fortnite. However, you can still use it in the Party Royale mode. Anyway, the Quadcrasher is basically a quadbike with offroad tires and a steel sweeper at the front. It seats just two people and it has 400 health points just like the shopping cart and the all-terrain kart.
Unlike the previous two vehicles, the Quadcrasher can ram through structures and damage your opponents. To do this, simply use the boost (jump button). Using boost will enable you to ram through walls and run over your opponents. Nice. The downside of the Quadcrasher? There’s no radio. So, unless you have a friend, it can get a bit quiet and lonely.
X-4 Stormwing
Moving on to aerial vehicles, we have the X-4 Stormwing. A propeller-powered aircraft with four wings. It seats up to five players and has a health 2,000 health points, so it’ll take a while for your enemies to bring it down. It has weapons that you can use, or if you feel like ramming your enemies, you can do that as well. Crashing into structures will take away some HP, but won’t destroy the plane.
The X-4 will take some time to start up and require a bit of space to take off. But when you do, using an airplane does make you feel somewhat invincible. If you want to take a flight, you can find the X-4 at a special outpost such as the Snowmando Outposts.
Choppa
The problem with airplanes is that you can’t hover over your enemies as you take your time firing at, well, your enemies. That’s where helicopters come in. If you prefer helicopters, then you can take the Choppa instead. Ridiculous and unimaginative name aside, the Choppa is quite useful. It seats up to five people, so you can take your friends, and then you can hover over your enemies as your friends fire at them. It also has 1,500 health points meaning it can take quite a beating, and of course, using the boost button will allow you to ram through structures.
Best part? The Choppa has a loudspeaker that can play Ride of the Valkyries. It was featured in the movie Apocalypse Now, where the 1/9 Air Cavalry squadron plays it on the helicopter during an assault on a Viet Cong-controlled village. That alone is enough to convince me to choose the Choppa over the X-4.
Here’s a video of the Choppa in action:
Motorboat
If you prefer to travel by water, the Motorboat is for you. Well, technically it’s the only option as it’s the only water transport available in Fortnite. But never mind that the Motorboat does have some interesting features. It has a boost function so you can go faster, and it has 800 health points which are fairly decent. The Motorboat can take a bit of a beating before it starts to fall apart.
Unlike the Choppa, the Motorboat has missiles built-in. So you can fire missiles at your enemies and this will deal massive damage to structures. The downside is that the Motorboat requires fuel to operate. So, if you run out of fuel, you will need to go in-land, find a jerry can to bring the fuel, and then bring it back to the Motorboat to refuel. Honestly? A bit too much work, I’d rather stick with the Choppa, to be honest.
Loot Shark
Remember at the beginning when I said I prefer COD: Mobile or PUBG because they were more realistic and I prefer that? Scratch that, Fortnite is absolutely hilarious. By using a fishing rod, you can actually ride these sharks. So-called Loot Shark because they will consume any loot that they come across. Then when the shark is killed, it will drop all the loot that it has consumed. Only one player can ride it at a time and it has no other weapon than its mouth. But it has 2,000 health points and it’s a shark that you can ride, what more do you want?
They were removed but have since been readded into the game. You’re likely to find Loot Sharks at Coral Castle.
Fortnite Cars: Wrap Up
Epic Games added cars into Fortnite back in 2020 with the Season 2 Chapter 3 update. While not quite as hilarious as the shopping cart, cars are incredibly useful. There are four variations with their own advantages as well as caveats, but generally, they are the best way to travel on land.
They have decent health points, can run over your enemies that stand in your way. And of course, they can accommodate at least one other player so your friend can tag along and you won’t be lonely. Or, if you’re playing solo and you’re feeling lonely, you will at least have a radio that will keep you company.
Be sure to check out the locations we listed above so that you can try these Fortnite cars. Also, don’t forget to take note of where the gas stations are. Your car will be useless without fuel!
